Imprisonment of government employee for 5 years

The Ninth Judicial panel, specialized in corruption at Amman Court of first instance chaired by Judge Nasser Al-Salahin, and membership of Judge Fadi Musleh, with the attendance of Integrity and Anti-Corruption Public Prosecutor Dr. Yazeed Al Nawafleh, condemned a government employee who was assigned the position of Secretary-General of one the Investment bodies for the crimes of accepting bribery and forgery.

The court decided that, during a public session, held on Monday, convicted the government employee for temporary works for a period of five years, and fined him the value of what he obtained by bribery, amounting to 4 thousand and 500 JOD, in addition to a fine worth 500 JOD, for a total amount of 5 thousand dinars. This decision will be subject to appeal before the competent court.

It was established to the court that the convict, during his assignment to the position of secretary-general of one of the bodies and head of a division responsible for tax exemptions in the same body, have granted a number of investment companies forged tax exemptions of up to 12 exemptions, although the law does not grant this type of companies any tax exemptions

The court decision indicated that the convict accepted a bribe from two people as well, working with two companies, and has repeated this offence three times, and each time he received a sum of money worth 1,500 JOD the value of the bribe reached 4,500 JOD.

The decision indicated that the convict repeated the crime of forgery in tax exemptions 12 times, and the body was able to discover a number of forged exemptions and suspend it work. Part of these exemptions reached the income tax, which as well suspended it and fined the companies the due on them.

The case was transferred by the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission after it was investigated to the competent court, and the court reached its verdict after several sessions, that included: - the witnesses of the Public Prosecution, the defense committee and the evidence.
